The Old Maid and the Thief

A Radio Opera

This entertaining one act opera was originally composed for radio broadcast in 1939, and is even more exciting to experience virtually this Summer! Watch and listen as this cast of characters navigate grumpy old maids, mysterious hooligans, and comedic scenarios.

Our virtual tickets include:
  • Access to virtual showing of your choice
Our enhanced virtual tickets include:
  • One virtual lecture on the opera and it’s composer
    • Gian Carlo Menotti, the Unsung Hero of American Opera
      • Join us for this pre-opera talk on Gian Carlo Menotti, lyricist and composer of MTME's August opera offering, "The Old Maid and the Thief". Despite his prolific body of work, winning multiple awards and grants, the Pulitzer Prize among them, he is often overlooked and disparaged in American opera culture. A person ahead of his time, Menotti strove to incorporate all the new media of the time, radio, television, advances in camera technology to try and involve the broader public in the opera experience. We’ll discuss Menotti’s many contributions to the art form and touch on the themes that run through “The Old Maid and the Thief”.
  • Access to be in the live audience
  • Access to all 6 online shows/videos

If you do not receive your link to watch the offerings your ticket includes the day before the scheduled viewing, please email "info@funmusiclessons.com".
